‘Gu’ means Darkness, Ru’ means Remover. One who destroys the darkness of life is called a ‘Guru’. He is always in an empty state (Shoonya). A guru is a person who transcended physicality means one who is beyond gender. A guru is neither a male nor a female. If he sees anything, he will only feel the presence. His knowledge is eternal and his actions are boundless.
In our Indian culture, Guru is given more importance to God because he is the one who shows the path towards the Divine. Guru accepts life as it is. Acceptance gives clarity. Clarity means seeing the things as it is. Once you see the things as it is, your wisdom would grow. Wisdom will give you an understanding of life by which he will transcend the physical.
He gives clarity about life to his disciples, by making them also accept life as it is. Guru can see your limitations directly. Once he sees that, he would give Sadhana accordingly to help the disciple. Guru swallows weakness and ignorance of disciple and fills him with the immensity of Light, Truth, and Wisdom. One of the characteristics of Guru is that he sees everyone equally, nothing but a state of ‘Vairagya’.
In your life, you can earn money, get married, and have children but you cannot get clarity about life. The moment you feel that you need clarity in your life and if you have the intensity to know the truth, you will somehow meet a Guru. Truth means knowing about yourself. It has nothing to do with anything else. Knowing the ultimate nature of human beings is true.
A Guru is like a field that is holding time and space. In physics, we know that around a heavy object space and time bends. Similarly, If you are connected to a Guru, who is a strong field, he has the ability to make you forget time and space and to transcend beyond physicality. Guru himself is beyond time and space. He can travel anywhere. To gain the grace of the Guru we need Sadhana.
Guru puja is one of the ways to offering our respect and have his presence. People come to Guru for various reasons in various stages. Some people are looking for purely Truth and knowledge. Others are in family life with some amount of spiritual inclination. Some others are only interested in family life. For every kind of person, a Guru will have different sadhanas. To seek truth and knowledge, definitely you need a Guru. Truth and Knowledge mean to realize oneself. Many confusions arise in this process. The first thing a disciple needs to do is to have the intensity to know about himself. Once you have it, a Guru will show the way.
